Bill Groves

photo of Bill Groves not availableBill and his 3 brothers were raised in Otego, Otsego County, New York - very close to where the last FFAA reunion was held. Bill has very fond memories of his grandparents (Floyd & Suzie Foote) and his great grandparents (A. J. & Nellie Foote) who were an important part of his childhood

Bill went to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY where he achieved a BS in Photographic Science & Engineering. After college, he moved to the Boston area where he has worked for the same company in Massachusetts for nearly 41 years.

Bill is the Spare Part Manager, in his firm's Special Products Mechanical Engineering Group. One of the company's main products is equipment for petroleum refineries, which is used all over the world. Bill has been married for 41 years to Sandra, whom he met in college. They have three children, and their first grandson added to the family this past fall.

Bill's hobbies consist of Barbershop quartet singing (and Chorus singing as well) - He has been a member of the Boston Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. for more than forty years. He has been a chapter officer several times, and has been Secretary/Treasurer for the past 8 years.

Another of Bill's hobbies is genealogy . Bill is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists and has been the President of the Middlesex Chapter for the past 4 years. Bill is also a member of the Massachusetts Genealogical Council.

In addition, Bill is involved in the Boy Scouts - he is an Eagle Scout, as are his two sons. He has about 45 years of service as Scoutmaster, assistant Cub Scouts District person, and Council person.

In addition Bill is a holder of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given by a Boy Scout Council. Further, he is a trustee and Treasurer of the Thompson Charitable Trust which is a non-profit foundation set up to benefit Boy Scouts in Arlington, Massachusetts
